Ladders for Truck Fleet and Shop Maintenance
Ladders for Truck Fleet and Shop Maintenance
A fleet shop has three different height problems in the same building: a 14 to 16 foot ceiling over the bays, a tractor hood at chest height, and a trailer roof at 13 feet 6 inches out in the yard. One ladder cannot do all three, and a tech who tries ends up carrying a 28 foot extension through a service bay.
Service Bay Ceilings and Bay Doors
Shop ceilings run high because the doors do. Lights, heaters, exhaust reels, air lines and door tracks all live at 12 to 16 feet, and that is tower territory. A rolling steel scaffold tower at $699 rolls between bays and gives a stable platform for fixture and door work.
For quick overhead jobs, a platform ladder still helps, but a Type IAA platform ladder at $257.99 is the right rating for a tech plus tools at height. The ceiling is not the place to save $30 on a lighter-duty ladder.
Tractor and Trailer Roof Access
A trailer roof sits at 13 feet 6 inches, and a tractor cab roof is a long step down from there. Getting to either one safely means an extension ladder set at the proper angle, not a stepladder on a bumper.
A 16 foot extension reaches a trailer deck at a working angle, and a 20 or 24 foot covers the taller equipment and the shop mezzanine. Our Werner Type IA fiberglass extension ladder at $299 is the fiberglass choice for shops with welding circuits and overhead lines nearby.
Never lean a ladder against a trailer side that can shift, and never set one on a dock plate or a trailer tongue.
Yard, Lot and Roadside Work
Road calls happen on gravel shoulders, in truck stops and on concrete pads that are never level. Aluminum is the practical choice when a tech has to carry a ladder any distance: our Werner Type IA aluminum extension ladder at $250 weighs less than the fiberglass equivalent.
Keep a pad or a piece of plywood on the service truck for footing, and use a leveler on the low leg. A ladder set on a gravel shoulder with one foot buried is the classic roadside fall.
Grease, Diesel and Electrical
Shop floors carry oil, diesel and coolant, and those films transfer to rungs. Wipe the ladder down at the end of the shift and keep fiberglass for anything close to a battery bank, a charger or a welding outlet.
Boots matter as much as the ladder. A tech in oil-soaked soles is a fall waiting to happen regardless of what the ladder is rated for.
Shop Storage and Daily Inspection
A fleet shop goes through ladders fast because they get used hard and stored badly. Hang them on a rack instead of leaning them against a wall where a forklift can clip them, and inspect feet, rungs and locks every week.
Our ladder range covers platform, stepladder and extension sizes for shop and yard work, and keeping one ladder per bay beats a single shared unit that is always on the other side of the building.
Three zones, three tools: Ceiling work wants a tower, trailer access wants an extension, and the hood wants a platform.
Aluminum for the road: Lighter ladders get carried, and a ladder left in the truck is no use at a road call.
A Shop That Climbs Well
Fleet shops do not need exotic equipment. They need a tower for the ceiling, a platform for the hood, a 16 to 24 foot extension for trailer and yard work, and a storage rack so all of it survives the year.
Tell us your bay height and your trailer count and we will lay out the shop and road kit.
Everything ships from 5030 Dexham Rd. Ste. 103 in Rowlett, TX, and local crews can pick up the same day. Call 972-331-1090 and we will tell you what is on the floor right now.
